Work visas

A work permit allows a foreign citizen to conclude an employment contract in Kazakhstan with a local employer. A work visa entitles a foreign national to enter Kazakhstan. The work visa is issued for the period of validity of the work permit or other supporting documents. A work visa can be obtained in the country of citizenship at the embassy of Kazakhstan or in the country of regular residence, provided that the relevant documents are provided.

General information

Foreigners can obtain a visa to enter Kazakhstan for work. C3 visa is not required for citizens of EAEU countries and for some CIS countries (Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, etc.). Please check details with DOS Immigration consultants.

Visa descriptions and criteria for issuing visas

A C3 category work visa can be obtained by persons travelling to the Republic of Kazakhstan or already staying in the Republic for work, as well as their family members. A multiple-entry work visa is issued for a period of one to three years or for the period of validity of a work permit.

Obtaining a work visa in the Republic of Kazakhstan is carried out in several stages. To apply and receive it at the Embassy of Kazakhstan abroad, you will need an invitation letter from your employer. The procedure will take 5 working days, starting from the date of registration of the invitation. Sometimes, at the discretion of the National Security Committee, approval may take 30 working days. The reason for this decision may be due to the foreigner’s nationality or past employment.

Documents required to apply for a visa

To obtain a work visa in the Republic of Kazakhstan, you will need the following package of documents:

  • a signed visa application form. It can be filled in one of three languages: Russian, English or Kazakh;
  • an invitation letter with a visa support number;
  • a 35×45 mm photograph. The photo can be in colour or black and white;
  • copy of work permit or other documents confirming the possibility of working in Kazakhstan. Original passport with at least two blank pages and validity period that expires at least 3 months before the visa expiry date;
  • a document confirming payment of the consular fee.

This list is standard. At the same time, additional documents may be required at the discretion of the embassy staff.

Supporting documents

In order to confirm their qualifications, visiting specialists are required to submit copies and translations of education documents certified by a notary, as well as information on their labour activity and length of service. At the same time, education, speciality, qualification (position) must meet the qualification requirements according to the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. But it should be noted that these requirements do not apply to seasonal workers.
