Legalization of documents for use in Egypt
We were approached by a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan with a request to legalize a document, namely a Certificate of marriageability. The certificate confirms that the registration of the record of the act of marriage (matrimony) in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan was not carried out in relation to the applicant. We assumed that a certificate is required for marriage in Egypt with an Egyptian citizen.
Egypt is not a party to the Hague Convention. Accordingly, when using documents issued abroad, it is necessary to undergo the procedure of consular legalization. The procedure for legalizing the certificate will consist of two stages.
STAGE #1. Legalization of the document in the DCS (department of Consular Service) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan
Last date (deadline): the process takes up to 3 working days from the date of registration of documents.
Cost: the amount of the state fee is 0.5 MCI (1725 tenge for 2023) per page of the document.
List of documents: the original document, a notarized copy of the document in Arabic, a copy of all pages of the notarized copy of the document, a copy of the applicant’s passport, the original power of attorney for a representative of our company.
Step-by-step action plan (road map)
At the initial stage, the details of legalization were explained to the citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Legalization can be done in two or three stages, depending on the convenience and country of permanent residence. You can read the details here. After agreeing on the cost of services and concluding a contract, representatives of our company prepared a power of attorney. At the appointed time, the client arrived at our notary and signed.
From now on, the client’s participation is not required. The documents were translated and notarized. It is important that notarization must be done by a notary, whose seal samples are available in the DCS of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Also, there are certain requirements for the document when certifying for consular legalization. A
t the last stage, the entire package of documents is checked by the responsible person, the state fee is paid and the package is registered with the authorized body. On the third working day, we received a notarized copy of the document with a mark of legalization. But, this is only incomplete legalization.
STAGE #2. Legalization of the document at the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in the Republic of Kazakhstan
Last date (deadline): the legalization process from the date of registration of the application takes from 2 to 10 working days. During this period, the seals of the DCS of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan are checked with the samples of the Embassy of Egypt.
The cost of legalization at the embassy was 47 USD per document. This is a consular fee set by the Egyptian Government.
List of documents: a notarized copy of the document in Arabic with a mark of legalization of the DCS of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, confirmation of payment of the consular fee, a copy of the applicant’s passport, power of attorney.
The result of the service rendered (performed) will be a notarized copy of the document with a translation into Arabic. The document will be stamped by the DCS of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan as a confirmation of the authenticity of the document. And the seals of the Embassy of Egypt, as confirmation of the authenticity of the seals of the DCS of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
